Can a sex offenders info be posted on a public mailbox?

Today my husband and I were walking into the entrance to our street and noticed that his Sex offender Registry paper with his info was posted on the public mailbox ( the grey one that is used for everyone on a street). We live in Florida. I am not sure what rights has has in regards to this. I went to the mailboxes and tore down the fliers. We called his probation officer and he said he did not think this was legal. Any ideas.

i think its legal may not be right but i dont know they have web sites that can show you the address of sex ofenders and their offenses and a mug shot.
